As we  get into the 2010 World cup vibe here in South Africa, our eyes and ears are open to everything soccer all around the world, so we watched as more than 80 000 fans  at the Bernabéu stadium Monday night welcomed the most expensive player in the history of football, Cristiano Ronaldo.

“For me it is the realization of a childhood dream, which was to play for Real Madrid,”  the 24-year-old Portuguese winger told cheering fans at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium after completing his move from Manchester United.

As the New York Times says: “Nobody ever sold it like Beckham. But here is a younger model with comparable photogenic appeal and more — much more — soccer skill. Fans began lining up seven hours before the presentation. They weren’t the only ones impressed by appearances.”

Cristiano Ronaldo will be wearing the No9 jersey once worn by the Madrid great Alfredo di Stefano.
