Vuvuzela South Africa

Making a beautiful noise for the beautiful game

Vuvuzela Belongs to the People of South Africa

Looks like the Vuvuzela belongs to the people of South Africa -  nobody owns the patent. The Vuvuzela remains in public domain. ( at least for the time being)

In an article in BizCommunity.com, Charl van Rooyen explains:

According to the records of the South African Registrar of Trade Marks, 40 trademark applications, by numerous persons and entities, have been filed over the past eight years for the registration of trademarks incorporating vuvuzela. These trademark applications are in relation to a wide variety of goods and services.

elovuvu6Since 2004 applications have been made for “plastic trumpets” and “musical instruments” but all of the vuvuzela trademarks are still pending, which means that now no single party can claim to be the registered proprietor of the vuvuzela trademark in South Africa.

So, I guess this means we can now relax and just enjoy the vuvuzela’s without trying to fight about “ownership”.

Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has challenged his Manchester United counterpart Wayne Rooney that he will score more goals to finish as the top scorer of the Premier League this season.

At the moment, both Rooney and Drogba’s are totaling 23 in all competitions.

I want to be the Top Goal Scorer – Drogba

“I want to be the top scorer in England. I want to make sure people remember ‘Drogba the Warrior’ in this campaign,” The Sun quoted Drogba, as saying.

“My absence at the African Nations Cup could end up being decisive. It gave an advantage to Wayne and my other rivals, but I warn them I shall be fighting until the very last match,” he added.

Didier-DrogbaTottenham Hotspur’s Jermain Defoe is next in the scoring chart with 20 goals, followed by Manchester City’s Carlos Tevez (18) and Darren Bent of Sunderland (15), but the race is on between the two leading hitmen.

Race Between Drogba and Rooney

The Ivory Coast star holds Rooney in the greatest of respect, but is determined to overtake him and then keep him at arm’s length.

“The race between Rooney and me will be beautiful and it is my objective to arrive at the finishing post first. I don’t think about the exact number of goals I shall need, but it will be necessary for me to pass 30 if I am to be the No 1 – and this is possible,” Drogba said.

Top Goal Scorer

If one wants to know anything about these two players, it’s a good idea to listen to the  the real fans, who watch them week in and week out. So I went to RedCafe.net – a Manchester United forum and picked up these following snippets from a Rooney vs Drogba thread.

Rooney-awards_2415910Surprisingly, they weren’t as biased as one would think:

one thing that Drogba wins over Rooney by a mile is aerial ability. He is also stronger than Rooney, not that there is much in it. You cant discredit Drogba as a footballer, he is top class, not a disgrace. Can be a bit of a cunt on the field, but clearly shows his class off it.

Drogba is a world class striker. Don’t care how much of a twat he is, as a footballer he’s brilliant. He routinely makes some of the world’s best centre backs look like Sunday league players, the only other striker you can say that of is Torres.

They are very different types of players TBH. Rooney has a much better all round game, and attitude. He contributes all over the field and he lifts players around him.

Drogba’s ‘all round game’ is extremely underrated on this website.

Wasn’t Drogba the one who said at the beginning of the 07/08 season that Ronaldo’s goal record the previous season (23) was a bit of a fluke and he wouldn’t be able to match that again?

Drogba always give me the impression that he could take the whole opponent’s defence by himself. Rooney is the best all rounder, and top goal scorer.

Drogba is quality but I would never take him ahead of Rooney regardless of age.

Brand your Vuvuzela and Support your Team

Vuvuzelas Branded - England

Vuvuzelas Branded - England

Well maybe we can’t just go out have our own vuvuzelas branded, but what a great idea for a team or for supporters from a country.

Corporate Gifts

I know that if I were organising a conference within the next few months I would certainly have branded vuvuzelas as corporate gifts.

Clinton Currie from The Vuvuzela Branding Company explains that before their patented method, branding on the vuvuzela was extremely limited.

“With our patented method it is now possible to completely brand 100% of the vuvuzela surface with full colour 360º printing.” He says.

Branded Vuvuzela Photos

As you can see from the photos, they have already had a huge response from England and German fans as well as from fans from all over Europe.

The Vuvuzela Brand Company is also negotiating with a few corporates that have shown an interest in our fully branded vuvuzelas.

stadium6Well it looks like Carlos Alberto Parreira is making headway with Bafana Bafana. They managed to score three goals at Moses Mabhida Stadium against Zimbabwe last night.

Bafana Bafana Magic

Although the game was no walkover for the South African National team, there were certainly moments of sheer Bafana magic. Bafana Bafana scored three second-half goals with Siphiwe Tshabalala handing the World Cup hosts the lead with a stunning set-piece. Thulasizwe Mbuyane scored the second after a sweeping attacking move and Lucas Thwala’s injury-time header completed the rout.

But the real magic of the night was the vibe in the Moses Mabhida Stadium, as thousands of Bafana Bafana fans and a few Zimbabwe fans walked for miles ( the parking was soooo far way) through the humid summer night, blowing their vuvuzelas, waving flags and making new friends.

Inside the Moses Mabhida Stadium the atmosphere was electric – vuvus of every shape and size; flags, and football shirt and t-shirts and caps got the singing dancing Bafana fans going.

crowd6The soccer, well the first half was not good – the second half showed promise. Our boys are going to work hard at their camp in Brazil.

Bafana Bafana Training in Durban

Bafana Bafana Training in Durban

Durban fans have their vuvuzelas ready to cheer Bafana Bafana tonight in the friendly against Zimbabwe at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

And I will be there – my first night match at Moses Mabhida and my fist look at the local Bafana Bafana squad in the steaming Durban summer heat.

Bafana 6 – Swaziland 2

During the friendly when South Africa eased past Swaziland 6-2 in a practice match against Swaziland on the weekend at the Chatsworth Stadium, one could already see some kind of shape, especially in the midfield where the South African team has just come to pieces in the past.

Parreira Expected to Field the Same Side

Parreira is expected to field the same side that started against Swaziland, with Katlego Mphela once again leading the line. The striker will be the focus of Zimbabwe’s defence according to Thomas Sweswe.

“Mphela has proven to be a quality striker and his scoring record bears testimony to that. If left unattended he can be a pain in the neck but we want to mark him out of the game,” the Kaizer Chiefs defender told Football365.co.za.

Bafana have been in Durban since two Fridays ago with Coach Carlos Alberto Parreira (CAP) focusing heavily on trying to get the players to play a possession game. This camp ends after tonight’s game and then there is another, heavy-duty one in Brazil in March.

Zimbabwe Squad no Pushover

The Zimbabwean Squad is not going to be a pushover. They are lead by Mamelodi Sundowns midfield general Esrom Nyandoro and contains plenty of other players based in South Africa playing for the top PSL teams.

Tickets available at Computicket – Via Checkers.

Kickoff: 8.30 pm.
