MTN 8 Wafa Wafa Competition gets underway tonight with AmaZulu v Supersport United in Chatsworth in Durban and Kaizer Chiefs v Bidvest Wits at the Rand Stadium. (Venue changed from Orlando Stadium because of power failure problems).
Top Eight Teams
The top eight teams contesting this year’s MTN 8 are Ajax Cape Town and Golden Arrows, both MTN sponsored teams, as well as AmaZulu, Bidvest Wits, Free State Stars, Kaizer Chiefs (2008 winners), Orlando Pirates and Supersport United.
The MTN 8 Wafa Wafa knockout tournament consists of the league’s top eight teams from the previous season who compete against each other in a revamped version of the exciting season-opener cup competition to take home eight million rands prize money and plenty of pride.
Supersport Complains About the Draw
Reigning PSL Champions, Supersport United Coach Gavin Hunt has hit out at the MTN 8 draw, believing that the sides finishing in the top four of the PSL should be guaranteed a home tie.
It may be because Matsatsantsa have lost away from home to AmaZulu in each of the last two PSL seasons and will need to be on top of their game if they are to go one better than last season. Supersport last won this competition in 2004.

AmaZulu Coach Neil Tovey
AmaZulu Looking to Consolidate
Neil Tovey is now in charge of AmaZulu who were disappointed to miss out on a place in the Telkom Charity Cup after being ahead at one stage. After a good finish last season, they will be looking to consolidate and do better.
According to Kickoff, newly appointed Usuthu skipper Pere Ariwerayi also exuded confidence when talking of meeting the League champions.
“Them winning the League title twice is history now. This is a new season and AmaZulu have undergone change. We as players have set our goals and one of them is to win one of the cups on offer. We are ready for them.”
Kaizer Chiefs v Bidvest Wits
Kaizer Chiefs must have mixed feelings as they kick off their MTN 8 campaign – they won Vodacom Challenge where they beat none other than Manchester City in the final but they lost last weekend’s Derby to their arch rivals Orlando Pirates in a penalty shootout in the semi finals in the Telkom Charity Cup.
As for Bidvest Wits, Roger de Sa has plenty of new faces in his team and although Wits may not had a pre-season that was as intense as their rivals you can be sure the Clever Boys can be expected to well prepared and well drilled for this clash and may just pull off a win.
