German Website Wants Vuvuzelas Banned from 2010 World Cup

petition

On the German website Vuvuzelas.org they kick off by explaining ”

“We do not want to change anyone’s culture or traditions! But in our opinion, blowing vuvuzelas for 90 minutes is just unsportsmanlike like blowing the whistle during each ball contact of the opponent. We want football with passion and creativity – on the ground and in the stadium. Therefore, we want – in the sense of all football fans and especially with your support – for a ban of vuvuzelas during World Cup 2009″ (sic)

And it looks like they are serious, there is a whole website Gegen Vuvuzelas – Pro Stimmung about Banning vuvuzelas from the 2010 Fifa Soccer World Cup – they even have a twitter page encouraging people to sign their petition it is called Gegen vuvuzelas which means “Against Vuvuzelas” and Pro Stimmung, ironically - Keep the Spirit.

Whose spirit, I ask? May I remind them that this is an African World Cup and just as we don’t insist on them banning lederhosen and wailing accordions from the Oktoberfest because it offends our aesthetic senses – they have no right to tell us what the “Spirit of the Game “ is, in our country and on our continent.
