They are calling it England Day in the UK. This evening England play the USA in the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenberg. at 8.30 this evening. (Day 2 Match 5).
USA – Confidence of Confederations Cup
In this much-anticipated showdown, a win against England would leave Bob Bradley’s U.S. squad on the verge of qualifying for the second round, while losing in this match would ensure a tough battle for survival in the last two games of the group phase.
The USA go into the match with the confidence of their success in the Confederations Cup last year in South Africa behind them. The USA has also made many friends in South Africa and they will have the most fans in the stadium according to FIFA ticket sales.
Can Wayne Rooney Control his Temper?
Meanwhile, England’s new coach Fabio Capello will have to compensate for the absence of injured player Rio Ferdinand, and Gareth Barry, who is not yet back to full fitness. Star striker, Wayne Rooney also had a swearing run-in with the referee in their final friendly against the local Platinum Stars which has lead to the referees learning English swear words so that they can keep an eye on Rooney and yellow card him if he offends.
I don’t think England would ever believe that the USA could beat them at soccer, but it might just happen this evening in the smaller stadium in the Tswana kingdom.
Oh and Sainsburys in the UKs have already sold more than 50 000 red vuvuzelas!
Greatest Shock in World Cup History
They still call it the greatest shock in World Cup history. In the 1950 FIFA World Cup Brazil, USA was 500: 1 to win. and they won by 1-0. 60 years on, can the USA team repeat the shock and win 1-0?
Walt Bahr was part of the USA team which stunned England 1-0 at the 1950 tournament in Brazil, a game that became known as the ‘Miracle Match’.
And the 82-year-old says England should beware the current US team, their opponents in Rustenburg tonight. Read the whole story on Sky and see the video
“If we now can do it on the national-team level against them on a big stage, it only takes the ball a little further,” U.S. coach Bob Bradley said in nydailynews.com
Whatever happens, we will have a great game to watch.
