2010 World Cup Mbombela Stadium, Mpumalanga

Just seven kilometres north of Nelspruit in Mpumalanga, you will find the funkiest of the new World Cup Stadiums. This 45 000 seater, elevated Stadium is called the Mbombela Stadium has excellent views from all positions.

And like the others, it has been designed to ensure that it enjoys a useful life beyond the tournament as an adaptable, relevant multi-sport, entertainment, and exhibition venue.

The name ‘Mbombela’ is a word in siSwati (one of South Africa’s 11 official languages) meaning ‘many people together in one place’.

Limpopo Trans-Frontier Park – Kruger National Park

In siSwati, (one of the official languages), Mpumalanga means a ‘place where the sun rises’. The town of Nelspruit is located in the local municipality of Mbombela. Nelspruit is a good base for exploring the nearby Limpopo Trans-frontier Park, which incorporates the Kruger National Park (South Africa), Limpopo National Park (Mozambique), and Gonarezhou National Park (Zimbabwe). The Climate in this area is sub-tropical with temperatures around 23°C during winter and warming up to 29°C during summer.

Mbombela Stadium has been proposed for both the first and second round matches with a capacity of just over 45,000.

• Wednesday, 16 June 2010 – Group H, first-round
• Sunday, 20 June 2010 – Group F, first-round
• Wednesday, 23 June 2010 – Group D, first-round
• Friday, 25 June 2010 – Group G, first-round
