Posted by KAY-EL On October - 30 - 2009

Get your vuvuzelas out and get ready for one of the best soccer matches you will see this season – Saturday it is time for a Soweto Derby and Kaizer Chiefs say they are ready to take on out of form Orlando Pirates.

Benson Mhlongo Injury Setback for the Buccaneers

Orlando Pirates boss Ruud Krol has admitted that the loss of Buccaneers captain, Benson Mhlongo will come as a big blow to his side’s Soweto Derby aspirations. The Bafana Bafana midfielder suffered a serious knee injury in Bucs’ 2-1 defeat to AmaZulu on Wednesday evening.

A report on Bucs’ official website reads: ‘An X-Ray conducted at a near by clinic revealed that ‘Mayanga’ dislocated a Patella on his knee. The report further reads that Mholongo’s dislocation was reduced and was brought back to normal under strong local analgesics, before he was sent to a private clinic.

Kaizer Motaung jnr- OK

According to soccerladuma.com, Kaizer Chiefs fans will be relieved to know that striker Kaizer Motaung Jnr’s injury sustained in the Amakhosi’s PSL game on Wednesday night will not jeopardise his chances of playing in the Soweto derby on Saturday

Ye-Ye -  The Derby is Whatever Happens on the Day

According to Kickoff, in-form Kaizer Chiefs midfielder Reneilwe ‘Yeye’ Letsholonyane believes current form will count for nothing on Saturday in the Soweto Derby and fans should not read anything into Orlando Pirates’ poor form of late.

“The Derby is whatever happens on the day and not what has been happening in the games before. We don’t care how they played or how they have been playing. What matters to us is our own performance and getting the result that we want. How Pirates play is not important to us,” says Letsholonyane.

Moses Mabhida 2010 Stadium Durban Pictures End October 2009

Posted by KAY-EL On October - 29 - 2009

My obsession with Moses Mabhida Stadium has taken me and my camera there in all kinds of weather – yesterday the weather was grey and every now and they it was drizzling, but Durban’s 2010 World Cup Stadium still took my breath away, like it does, every time I look at it through my lens.

bridge6People’s Park

I first jumped out of the car on the bridge that crosses highway to take some pics across the People’s Park with the oval walking track that is being constructed- they have cleared all that rubbish and railway yard stuff, and the actual track is taking shake in front of the stadium in the Kings Park Sporting Precinct.

Then we drove to the Kings Park Pool and I climbed up on to the stand to take some pics from there and took some from the parking area. From the stands I saw how far the progress was with the pedestrian walkway from the Moses Mabidha Stadium through the underground tunnel under the freeway to the beach – so we drove around to the beach to take pics from that side.

The Stadium is so close to the beach – I can just imagine fans,, swarming out after a game and down to a beach for a beach party.

Opening of Moses Mabhida Stadium

Next thing to look forward to is the opening of the Moses Mabhida stadium in under a month. I’m trying to work all my connections so that I can be there. I want to go with a team and live-blog the whole event.

Golden Arrows Go Down to Kaizer Chiefs in the Dark

Posted by KAY-EL On October - 29 - 2009

What must Golden Arrows do to play a match for 90 minutes without the lights failing? Once again, the Orlando Stadium’s lights went out – this time only for a matter of minutes, but it must put the players off their stride – and Arrows came down to the ground hard as they were beaten by Chiefs 2 – 0 in the PSL clash.

Amakhosi fans will celebrate the goals from Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Kaizer Motaung Jr that handed Kaizer Chiefs coach Vladimir Vermezovic the win and the three points.

With just a couple of minutes left on the clock some of the lights failed but wisely the referee decided to play out the remaining time in the dark rather than keep fans waiting.

Reneilwe Letsholonyane was named man of the match in last night’s PSL clash against Golden Arrows. The Kaizer Chiefs’ midfielder scored the first of the two goals and set up team-mate Kaizer Motaung Jr for the second.
